Public bug reported:

I couldn't completely install the server.  Mysqld was installed so I
tried starting it.  It reported "segmentation fault".  So I examined
mysqld with the file utility which reported that it was a shared object.

I then downloaded the package directly from the ports.ubuntu.com pool,
extracted mysqld and checked it, to determine if the provider of my
distribution altered it. The package I downloaded from the pool also
contained  mysqld as a shared object.

BTW: I'm in the process of building mysql on a Tab A with 3 gig of
memory. I hope that's enough😄.
