"ik8utils" is not meant to create "/proc/i8k". This file is created when
the module "i8k" is loaded into kernel. "sudo modprobe i8k" works in
12.04 LTS, in Dell Inspiron 15R SE-4670.

On my Dell Inspiron 1300, Ubuntu 7.10, I get the following when trying
to modprobe i8k:
FATAL: Error inserting i8k
(/lib/modules/2.6.22-14-generic/kernel/drivers/char/i8k.ko): No such device
dmesg reveals nothing.
Anyone have any ideas?

A quick fix for this is to do:
sudo modprobe i8k
I also believe you can add it to /etc/modules to avoid running it every

I just set up a new Xubuntu install on my notebook and noticed this same
issue today, although I don't remember needing to add that module before
on my Ubuntu setup (bot
