I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 11.04 too.
I have tried the package from Giuseppe Iuculano and I think that the
sound is better when racing (maybe correct), however, it still sounds
very weird in the main menu and even more in the Audio menu.

The melody plays fine on i686, but gets completely butchered on amd64.
Deleting debian/patches/CVE-2007-6720.patch and rebuilding libmikmod2
makes the problem go away, but obviously that's not what we want.
And the butchered version...
