I'm not requesting they be cut. I'm not sure why you keep saying that
when it just isn't true. I'm requesting they change to recommends. If
Ubuntu sees fit to not include
I can imagine at least two alternatives:
* ubuntu-meta depends on xserver-xorg and other critical packages; or
* Creating a new 'xorg-minimal' metapackage.
But I also imagine nobody will ever bother with those because it's not
actually important. More likely that the two dependencies this
I worry that removing a common metapackage name like that from an LTS
release initially, will crush tons of automation built over the years,
especially for ssh X forwarding use cases on servers without a window
manager. What is the alternative? Attach some of the actually required
dependencies and
Required is correct because 'xorg' is a metapackage and therefore would
not fulfill its duty otherwise.
I suggest the real bug should be "why are we installing package
'xorg'?". If you want then we can reword this bug accordingly.

dependency. There is zero justification for it being required.
