I'm using Intrepid Beta. Whenever I try to remove the Launcher / Task
Manager applet, I get that error.

Because it is a builtin applet, Awn must be closed in order to remove
the Launcher/Taskmanager applet via awn-manager.

There is a new version on Intrepid (0.2.6). Can you try with this new version
and see if the bug is still here ?
If so, Can you test with the last upstream trunk build
