I have the same problem with my Intel Centrino 2200 on my Acer laptop.
So this is probably not due to ndiswrapper but to nm in general.

I can confirm it as well. I am using 4306 broadcom chip v.2 and cannot
connect using neither nm-applet nor wicd.

I don't know about others with the problem, but my wireless wasn't
working either before or after updating - I don't think it's anything to
do with hal, and therefore not a duplicate.
