Explanation of FeatureFreeze exception: This release has new features and bug fixes. Notably, there is this in the upstream changelog: * Moved to a new versioning scheme where the project major version will be updated everytime API/ABI is changed Indeed, in the past they changed the ABI without changing the SONAME, and this led to issues like https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1059068 which this release indeed fixes.
