KDesktop is no more in Kubuntu 8.10 and up (replaced by Plasma) so this
should no longer be an issue.

In all honesty, I have no interest in upgrading. Besides the stand-by
and hibernation issues that happen 1 in 3 times, everything else is fine
and Ubuntu loads faster than Windows so I have just been shutting down.
If others experience this issue I may try a 8.10 install through Wubi.
