Public bug reported: I had a perfectly functional Gutsy system. When the Hardy beta release came out, I did an in-place dist upgrade. Everything worked except for the sound.
'alsamixer' and Gnome's Volume Applet (2.22.0) gave messages to the effect that there was no sound device or gstreamer plugin, respectively. I eventually realized that snd-hda-intel.ko wasn't on my filesystem Or more accurately, only the old one, for Gutsy, was installed: ./2.6.22-14-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel I had to manually install the package linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12-386 in order to have the file: /lib/modules/2.6.24-12-386/ubuntu/sound/alsa-driver/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko I was then able to successfully modprobe snd-hda-intel, and my system had all expected sound functionality right away. "uname -a" yields: Linux troll 2.6.24-12-386 #1 Wed Mar 12 22:30:29 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gutsy->hardy upgrade: didn't install (needed) linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-12-386 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208229 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
