This seems to be also a problem with the Sony Vaio SZ series (also Intel
HDA). That is exactly how I could fix it for my SZ61WN. Would be great
if Ubuntu could do this by default since it would allow a much smoother
user experience for Sony Vaio owners.

Good day. I have a Sony Vaio VGN FZ340E; there are problems with the audio
output jack for the Intel 8280H (ICH8 Family) HDA controller (rev. 03).
It has no sound [coming from the jack], just from the internal speakers.
I had to do this:
$ sudo gedit
