If I blacklist the saa7134 module the kernel will boot up. I have three
AverMedia A180 tuners. The live 8.04rc hangs too. The 8.04 beta
worked better. Attached is my dmesg which shows some problem with the
alsa pcm device.

The same problem here on a x64_64 after updating 2.6.24-15-generic to
2.6.24-16-generic in Hardy.
Interesting is, that a parallely installed kernel 2.6.24-16-rt boots normally.
Hardware:
- Board: Asus P5B, Intel HDA
- Processor: Intel Code 2 Duo E6300
- Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS
- TV Card Fly DVB-T
Correction, A8N_Sli Deluxe. Nvidia chipset.

Confirmed here on x86_64.
Going from kernel 2.6.24-15-generic to 2.6.24-16-generic, boot now
hangs at Loading Hardware Drivers.
Message on the console is "hda_codec - Unknown model for ALC883, trying
to auto-probe from BIOS", after which the boot hangs.
That message is present in the older -15
