The proposed change is incorrect. Imagine a Kubuntu installation that
does not have pulseaudio installed. In this case, setting the
default_driver to pulse would result in a regression. This is now

From my experience libao-pulse is not necessary.
I modified libao.conf and changed default_driver=pulse.
I don't have package libao-pulse installed
I am running Hardy.
Everything is working perfectly. This simple change fixed many things
for me.

require an extra dependency on libao-pulse for ubuntu-desktop...
