You're actually right - totem now explicitly depends on totem-plugins
(it was different in the previous version...). This does not seem to me
like a good idea, a set of recommended plugins (as in the description)
should be a recommends not a depends... I therefore mark this bug as
confirmed
totem has no code and is just there to install a variant and the
plugins, you can remove it, the lib is a small one and doesn't require
to install tracker, it's just an interface to talk to it when it's
installed

Yes, but the lib is still there, and still unnecessary baggage. Also, as
Marcel pointed out, a set of 'recommended' plugins should not be a
required dependency, so there is still an issue here, but I'll let you
guys decide what you want to do from here.

totem does not depend on libtrackerclient, only totem-plugins does (the 'local
search' plugin uses tracker to search for videos). Therefore, installing and
running totem should be possible without having anything tracker-related
installed.
