sorry i didnt upload a patch!! i uploaded the 1.4.7 source with my (simple)
modifications to compile it with the module-assistant.
Im a subscriber of the openafs mailing list and in the announcement for openafs
1.4.7 i had readed that this release have a lot of patches for better
compatibility
Hi Russ,
yes i meaned to build from the upstream source tarball.
I readed in the configure output:
schnipp
configure: WARNING: Cannot determine sys_call_table status. assuming it isn't
exported
schnipp
is this probably a AppArmor problem?

This is normal for any current Linux kernel. On such kernels,
ok,
i build openafs (with the upper options) and moved
.../src/libafs/MODLOAD-2.6.24-16-generic-MP/ to
/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/fs/
then depmod -A and modprobe -a libafs.
lsmod | grep libafs shows, that the module is loaded, but dmesg hadnt any
output.
IMHO there must anything like

i want to try the upstream source to build only the kernelmodule and check if
this solve the problem. I have no idea how to create a deb package by hand and
didnt want to configure + make + make install because i dont now how to purge
it out of my fresh system ...

Hi Russ,
i think it is the high-patched ubuntu kernel ... i use the module-

To use the Debian kernel packages on Ubuntu. Uh...
Hi,
this bug was reported 16.04.2008, is there any progress to fix that bug?

The sysctl error messages are fixed with the current version in Debian
unstable. I'm not sure what's causing the permission denied messages, so
I'm not sure if that's also fixed, but Debian
openafs 1.4.7 is out ... perhaps it solve the problem?!

I've just updated to 8.04 (release) and still can't get openafs to work
correctly. When listing a directory, I get something like this:
snip
ls: cannot access README.modules: Permission denied
total 139
?? ? ? ??? 0710.pdf
drwxr-xr-x 3 bendel etap 2048
Can not reproduce here. openafs client still works fine in hardy for me
(I get the 'same' msg in kern.log)
# uname -r
2.6.24-16-server
# dpkg -l openafs-modules-2.6.24-16-server |tail -1
ii openafs-modules-2.6.24-16-server 1.4.6.dfsg1-2+2.6.24-16.30 AFS
distributed filesystem kernel
Yes, I do have a valid ticket. Did you check your openafs client only
for the server kernel? I think that's the only difference in our setup.
I don't know whether this makes any difference or not ...
Cheers

We have been running openafs using both the generic kernel and the
server kernel on hardy for a while without noticing any problems.
The output from ls suggests some kind of permission problems. Are you
really sure that you have afs-tokens? Does it make any difference if you
run 'afslog'?
Can
Unfortunately not. Tried a clean install of ubuntu and got the same
messages. Can list the afs directories, but everything else doesn't work

I can reproduce your problem. I can read/write files
without problem with openafs-modules-2.6.24-16-generic
1.4.6.dfsg1-2+2.6.24-16.30
Please update from 2.6.24-12-generic to the current 2.6.24-16-generic kernel
and try again.
