No sound on Acer Aspire 8920G with H.Heron 8.04 Beta x86_64 and
Realtek ALC889 and Intel
Tested on Ubuntu Keramic with Acer Aspire 6920-6141 and the sound works (Alsa
1.20) :)
I had to unmute the in alsa mixer (this should be automatic) and tell pulse
that I have a 5.1 card. Now, the speakers works and the headphone sensor works
too (first time with this laptop! )
The only
From now on, new Ubuntu and other distributions realizes will come with full
support for our sound card thanks to a newer alsa sound driver (1.20) coming
with Karmic Koala 9.10 next month. For those who can't wait please visit this

Since months we are trying to resolve sound problem on Acer Aspire 8920G
laptops. It's High Definition Audio, 5.1 Cinematic Surround - Tuba.
Other models with the same sound card have same problem.
Till now, we found only temporary solution witch enable two front
speakers but today I
Ok guys, after extracting LinuxPkg_5.11 and changed to that directory I didn't
fallow Ubuntu instructions and run install script like this:

After that I rebooted ones and then run fallowing instruction on screen:

It work for me. Thank you very very s much.
I can hear music, great quality sounds, on integrated 5.1 speakers and my
headphones works too. I was around for few days installing new alsa from source
via scripts I found on forums and because of that I had to reinstall Ubuntu on
Quick workaround:
Add those lines to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
Internal speakers work, headphones doesn't.

The hda-verb workaround is not working either. The device
/dev/snd/hwC0D0 is not created anymore. I have tested with both options

No sound on
I tried this workaround on a Acer Aspire 6920-6141 and it make the sound
work on the internal speakers, but that's all...
The headphone jack is not working. I can't mute all the speakers and get
sound in the headphones (I tried all possible model param to the drivers
and got nothing). The tuba
There is a solution to get stereo working (at least on 6920G i can confirm this
works) here:
http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=852295
Though, setting the model to acer-aspire seems unnecessary, model=acer works
just as well.
You can then turn on/off the tuba by turning
I have the same problem with a ACER Aspire 6920.
I can't get alsa to work even by compiling the latest sources (Ubuntu
8.04 64bit) and I tried almost all model kernel options, with no
luck...
The only way to get sound out of the speaker is using OSS4, but
headphone detection does not work (must
Thanks for that Mike.
I can confirm this works on my Acer 8920G in 8.04 32bit AND 64bit
Though the sound it a bit basic and quieter than it could be with full drivers.
(OSS only enables the 2 smallest speakers on the front of the laptop)
Is anyone working on a proper fix to get all 5.1
I've found a temporary solution for sound playback using OSS4 rather
than ALSA.

I have an Acer Aspire 6920G and I am experiencing the same issue with
Ubuntu Hardy Heron amd64.
I tried the suggestion posted earlier, http://mailman.alsa-

This did not yield positive results: the audio is still silent.
These are the steps
Do any of you guys have the network card up and running, atheros ar8121

I have an Acer Aspire 8920g and Alsa's snd-hda-intel does not have a
model that works completely on it yet. However after some help on the
Alsa lists, I was able to get it working for stereo anyway on internal
speakers. See this post:

I'm not sure if the absence of sound stems from the same bug (given that
we don't have the same audio device).
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /dev/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.16 emulation code)

Now I am on the official Ubuntu 8.04 x86-64 (generic)
And I still have the same troubles
It sounds that the new LTS release has not solved the sound problem.
All the output I have are exactky the same than before, except :
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /dev/sndstat
Sound Driver:3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA
Still not working using motherboard Asus P5E VM Do after latest updates.

sudo alsa reload
at the beginning of the session, makes the sound back to life.
