I do still not know if the problem I had is related to the problem that
is described here, but I can supply you with a load of info from the
last few hours. To answer your questions:
The problem still exists in the newest version of ubuntu (intrepid ibex). Thus
it is not solved.
My sound

Hardy still opposes sound problems, can't try on intrepid since Ubuntu
is my main os, and I don't change to the next one untill the stable
comes out (30/10). All I can find out about my hardware in linux is that
i use a realtek sound card, configuration doesn't matter (still gives
the same
what soundcard and audio configuration do you use? could you try if
that's still an issue in hardy or intrepid?

I probably have , more or less, related issues:
1. Sound volume is to low. I run a dual-boot system in Windows XP and
sound is ok there, so don't play me the the maximum level is the
maximum you can get out of your sound card-card, because it's simply
not true.
