This bug report is being closed due to your last comment regarding this
being no longer an issue. For future reference you can manage the status

Managed to find a work-around, by setting the two drives to Master and
Slave. If they are set to Cable Select it still happens.
Happy with the workaround.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue

Additional information:
Attempting to boot from a downloaded 8.04 Install CD gives "hdc: drive
not ready for command", and the DVD drive has no power. Whereas, booting
from a 7.10 install CD works fine.
Whatever the issue is, it's something in 8.04, and it doesn't help
matters :o)

Additional Hardware Information:
The system with this issue has an Asrock 939A8X-M motherboard, based on
an ALi M1689 chipset and AMI BIOS (at latest level for this
motherboard).
This system also had a VMWare virtual machine that successfully upgraded
with no issues.
