I can confirm that the following steps fix this problem:
1.) wget
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/rdesktop_1.7.1-1_amd64.deb
2.) sudo dpkg -i
http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/r/rdesktop/rdesktop_1.7.1-1_amd64.deb
3.) sudo apt-get install pcscd
4.) Edit
+1 for this.
BTW, I installed the debian sid .deb into Oneiric and it worked fine with the
smartcard (ActivIdentity) after installing pcscd

I filed a bug in the Debian bug-tracker.
Although I am not the maintainer of this package, I assume this is not a
trivial change due to the fact that one need to split the binary-package
into two packages: rdesktop and rdesktop-smartcard. I think most people
will not use smartcard support and do
