NOT still a problem, the fixes posted on forum and in the error message resolved the temporary problem, as I posted in a follow-up. Sorry Chris, my bad, I meant to go back and update that one as resolved/fixed/ etc.. Now I will remember that if _I_ don't do it ... in a timely manner ... someone

After reporting bugs/errors I opened Add/Remove Programs which gave me a new error message AND the error message here suggested in part: using sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install -f after which I was able to install one program, and then run update-manager successfully to install 36
