I had the same problem and found a solution. Neither rdestkop nor XP SP3 were the cause but the Nvidia drivers (on the XP system). Driver version 175.xxx ships a faulty driver (RDPDD.dll). Upgrading to 178.xxx solved the problem for me and rdesktop works fine again. Hope this helps some of you
