Incompatibility
I had the same problem and found a solution. Neither rdestkop nor XP SP3
were the cause but the Nvidia drivers (on the XP system). Driver version
175.xxx ships a faulty driver (RDPDD.dll). Upgrading to 178.xxx solved
the problem for me and rdesktop works fine again.

I'm seeing this exact same behavior. I'm not sure why there aren't more
reports about this out on the web - seems like something that a lot of
people would run into.
Is there any way to put rdesktop in verbose/debug mode so we can see
what's going on?

Incompatibility to Windows XP
This also happens to me. I did not install SP3 explicitly, but I have
automatic updates notifications and I clicked yes always, so xp is fully
updated.
