I don't seem to have this problem anymore once I upgraded to Intrepid Ibex...

This all happens at the kernel level, whereas the wireless-tools package
only contains the tools used for configuring wireless settings; so I'm
reassigning this to the 'linux' package, since the kernel maintainers
