Yes, I even manually removed /var/lib/apt/lists before doing so.

Please run apt-get update and than install it please give us the full
output of the commands. Its there in multiverse and installable as i
just installed it on this set up this morning.

I ran 'apt-get update' a few times already and it doesn't help. But I'm
back on my machine (the one which behaves so weird is my mother's) and
