In my case, although I can't see the certificate, all the functionality is working. I can check signatures, encrypt and the s/mime public certificate get automatically imported. I added a bug report to gnome's bugzilla: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=539002 -- Evolution does not

It seems that evolution no longer imports public keys when it receives a signed email message. In addition, it shows a valid and trusted certificate as being untrusted. (I have the root signing certificate installed and marked as trusted for all three uses.) This used to work flawlessly.
