Dean: The command starts with sudo, not sudu. Copy and paste the
following into your terminal:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
N.B. It needs two dashes for --configure: John's version doesn't work,
unfortunately.

Make sure there wasnt a typo, sudo dpkg -configure -a
This command will install the packages. Prsonaly I would use sudo apt-get
upgrade it will automaticly finish the broken packages, Please post the
output of the dpkg command also the upgrade command.please add the commands you
ran

When I run the command as suggested, it says command not found aftyer entering
the password as super user.
I love the new Ubuntu but this has badly let it down as nothing else can be
installed.

That means there's a problem with the backend system that configures
packages on your system. Specifically, it's been stopped half-way
through doing something. What you'll need to do is to bring up a
terminal (GNOME terminal in GNOME, or Konsole in KDE), and issue the
command it gives
