I'm running compiz 0.8.6 and emerald 0.7.2 in Maverick Meercat. ATi

Sorry. A friend of mine is still having the problem on Arch (same
package versions). Seems to be dependend on the hardware platform.

I've just installed emerald 0.8.4 from git and I cannot confirm that the
bug was fixed. I still have exactly the same problem with the shadow. I
tried different themes and engines with the same result. With some
combinations of settings the step is not very good visible, but it's
there.

I changed the status because there is only a 0.7.2 emerald package
available for Ubuntu. I couldn't even find a ppa source with the updated
version of emerald.

Just stumbled upon my old bug report;) Bug seems to be fixed in Emerald
0.8.4 with Compiz 0.8.4 running on Arch Linux ("at least" fixed
upstream...).
If this is not fixed on Ubuntu, please reopen!

I can confirm this bug. Increasing the shadow radius makes the step more
obvious.
Also, when the shadow radius is sufficiently large, the top and bottom
shadows disappear. The shadow radius where this occurs depends on the
size of the window. Try it with max radius, and you'll see it occur for
eve
