I now have 1280 x 1024 running under 19-generic with nvidia-glx-new restricted
drivers enabled and compiz desktop setting turned on as well.
I can't quite remember exactly how I got in running but I did do these steps.
* Installed package nvidia-settings from Synaptic
* Installed

Okay, I did a clean install of Hardy (8.04) for an unrelated reason.
When I updated to the 2.6.24-19-generic kernel, it worked fine. So
moving from 2.6.24-16-generic to 2.6.24-19-generic works for me. I have
no idea what this means, but I thought I should report it.

Higstar,
Indeed it says it needs to be configured, but even after configuring I
cannot enable the restricted Nvidia driver, or use anything other than
low graphics. I like my multiple workspaces so for now my solution is
still to boot in 18-generic. If you have gotten higher graphics to work

I can confirm this problem. I am only able to boot with the nvidia
graphics driver enabled under the 2.6.24-17 kernel. Any ideas for a fix?

Same bug for me.
If I boot with the last 2.6.24-19, the nvidia driver (nvidia-glx-new
from ubuntu repositories) is not used, and not listed in System -
Administration - Restricted drivers.
My keyboard layout change too, it switchs to USA (I use french
keyboard).
No problems if I boot with the

nVidia Corporation GeForce 6100.
When I boot into kernel 2.6.24-18-generic or -rt everything is normal again.
