Public bug reported:

After a recent automatic system update (on Monday, June 24), the resolution for
my monitor is now set to 800x600, and there is a noticeable flicker that wasn't
there before. When trying to change the resolution through
System --> Preferences --> Screen Resolution
the highest available resolution is 800x600, and the name of the monitor is
"Unknown"; pressing "Detect Displays" has no effect.

The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 950b, system information is
Release 8.0.4 (Hardy)
Kernel Linux 2.6.24-19-generic
GNOME 2.22.2

Thanks in advance.
