In Nautilus, I can see the Memory Stick device but not possible to mount it.
But, in the /dev/ directory, i can see it:

I also installed Intrepid freshly off a USB stick and was having the

This bug was fixed for me by the same procedure Anthony Vickers used.

So, when installing from USB, Ubuntu must be aware that this is not

I had this problem with my Medion Akoya E1210 Netbook. It has no optical
drive and it was trying to mount the USB device as a CD/DVD drive on

mounted the CD/DVD drive thus;

I may have a solution. This may not work for every one.
I installed Intrepid off a bootable USB key, as my laptop has no optical

Today I went through and checked blkid.tab, fstab, and mtab after
inserting a USB key and getting the error.
I found a line in blkid.tab that had /dev/sdb1 lis

My PC even with the latest updates was not auto-mounting, so continued
searching the web and found lots of suggestions about modifying udev

impact, but what I did discover was a corrupt 95-hal.rules file. My

With the latest updates the problem has been fixed for me.
Thank you very much.

Btw, it initially commented that it can't mount because it thinks that

I could not mount my USB device at first. However I could force a mount.
The device gives a prompt that explains that you can mount the device by
