MathType formulas messed
I can confirm this bug in OOo 3.1 as installed in Kubuntu 9.10.
Unlike yesint, this was a showstopper for the pilot program in the
Chemical Engineering lab and could not be resolved using VMWare. I have
a lab of 8 computers waiting for this bug to be fixed before they can be
upgraded to Kubuntu
The Geoff's solution solved the problem for me! (on ubuntu 8.04 and ubuntu
9.04)
(the fc-cache command was not necessary here)

There doesnt seem to be anything going on in the upstream bug report. Is this
going to ever get fixed?
As has been mentioned before, many users, esp. in the academic, research,
university
environment do use a lot of equations and unless this bug is fixed, a valuable
user base will be lost or
It seems that academic community is of no priority for OO developers,
thus such compatibility bug is simply ignored. This is sad. We gave up
in our lab and installed MS Word under virtual machines on all
computers. Few users are lost. Not a big deal of course, but I'll warn
about this bug all my
The attempt off fixing this gets a vote from me, as this is the only
thing retaining me from using openoffice.

The solution from Geoff does not work at all for me. I did all suggested steps
and still see absolutely no difference in appearance of the equations.
However, I have a feeling that the solution should really be as simple as this
unless the font is hard-coded somewhere inside OO...

Hi all,
This problem is easily fixed. It is due to the fact that MathType uses
the Symbol font which is not installed by default in Ubuntu. You need
to install this font (attached to this comment).
To do so, download the font to your home directory, open a console and
type:
sudo cp symbol.ttf
In addition to my last comment, you may need to set the correct
permissions after installing the font. In a console type:
sudo chmod 655 /usr/share/fonts/truetype/symbol.ttf [press Enter]
Does anyone know, can we get this font included in the MS core TrueType fonts
package to solve this
@Geoff:
Thanks for the effort, but your tips do not fix the problem for me. All the
documents
that earlier had the problem still look the same in OO.o, including the sample
file

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't help me either.

Hello.
I'm working with on Ubuntu Junty with Open Office 3.1 and I have the same bug.
Open Office can't render Mathtype formulas correctly. It is very important to
me and many of my colleagues to br able to read documents imported from
Microsoft Word.
--
MathType formulas messed up and not
@ Claus: The bug occurs when a formula created in MSword using the mathtype
plugin is opened in OOffice.
The bug is not related to equations created within OOffice. This bug affects
the interoperability between OOffice and MSword/Mathtype.

I have a similar problem in OO3 Impress. I am going to start using Openoffice

formula, they are just mess up.
