8.04 has reached end of life and this package removed. If you still have
this issue on a currently supported release, please reopen it and
reassign it to the linux package

related messages, no matter whether or not booting with pci=nomsi. Good.

Kristian - Could you try uninstalling the linux-backports-modules
package for your kernel, and see if the problem goes away. I appreciate
that you might experience other problems with your wireless doing this,
but I'm not suggesting it as a fix.
Could you also try booting with the pci=nomsi
Adding the pci=nomsi did provide quite some improvement so far:
Machine seems more performant even after being up all day, and the log
entries periodically dumped to dmesg have reduced to the following
lines:

Kristian - It would be worth trying without linux-backports-modules
installed, so I can ascertain which package this bug report belongs too.
If you uninstall this package, you should boot without the pci=nomsi
option.
