the default Lisp asked for by SLIME

I can also confirm this on a Ubuntu 9.04 (i386) Live CD.
Another solution is to use C-u M-x slime, and when Run lisp: lisp
appears, change it so that it reads Run lisp: sbcl

I can confirm this bug on a clean Ubuntu 8.04.2 amd64 (ie I never
installed slime or even emacs on it before), and adding the proposed
line to ~/.emacs is indeed a working solution.
