I tried out an orinoco silver pcmcia card with the live i386 cd (build 20081020) and the orinoco card seems to work fine with Network Manager. I did notice that iwconfig was reporting only 2Mbit/s, though when I transferred some data, it bumped up to 11Mbit/s (orinoco silver is 802.11b only).

The Hardware Drivers applet recognizes that my eee 900a has an atheros driver, and claims that it's activated, but network manager doesn't see any devices. In Network Tools there is an unknown device, wmaster0. Hope there's some signal in my added noise. -- [MASTER 0.7 regression]

just to clarify my previous comment, and update it in light of further testing. I'm running a wifi card with ath9k drivers. I'm able to connect to my wireless router without a hitch (so it seems). Obtaining an ipaddress is a problem. dhclient fails on both -2 and -3 nm-applet
