Public bug reported:

I have spend most part of my weekend trying to instal (k)ubuntu.

I want to run ubuntu next to my windows xp.
I have tried :
- in windows instal
- live cd run
- from the boot screen all options inclusive looking at the log

With and without options like noapci nolapci nodma all_generic_ide

When ubuntu is installing the ata2 calls fail and there is no respond
from the ide devices. The screen just hangs.

config:
Asrock k7s8x with sis 746fx chipset with latest bios update (no report on the
asrock sata issue)
 512 mb 333 fsb ram
harddisk on primary ide as master
80 gb disk in 4 partitions
cd rom-writer on secondary ide as slave
cd rom on secondary ide as master

Downloaded (k)ubuntu from the web last friday and burned some cd-rom's

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
