For me personally, this is no longer an issue, since that computer and the external DVD drive are long gone. It is also probably difficult to even buy a CD-ROM drive that doesn't read DVDs, so maybe this particular problem does not arise with new computers, but I imagine that people who have older

problem is still in ubuntu 7.10. funny that the 1st time i inserted the ubuntu dvd into the 2nd drive it automatically offered to open the packet manager. it worked. but it asked only once and after reboot i'm stuck with this bug. -- No obvious way to use second CD drive
