Just tried the 9.10 alpha3 livecd, and it boots very well, just a bit
slow (it took about 10 minutes to boot) but that's because of the age of
the computer.

When booting from the live-cd, after the ubuntu usplash, the Xserver
fails to start. I can see the computer is trying to start it, but it
fails. After about 10 seconds, I get the command line

Added my xorg.conf and log file. I have an ACER 3002WLMi with mobility
Radeon 9700 ( that is what the sticker says )
As the OP says the box starts runs the splash screen and then fails to
load the graphical login screen. I will also attach the lspci output as
above if it helps
