Maybe those links will be helpful for resolving this bug:
http://thewelltemperedcomputer.com/Linux/USBAudio.htm
and from who bought DAC1 USB and using it and works fine on Linux:

I have the same question.
As a side note, I've been in contact with Benchmark Media Systems and
their latest response was:
"Our hesitation about testing Linux is that there are so many
permutations that exist. It would be very difficult to provide any real
amount of support with Linux."

What's the current progress for this bug? I have the same issue on the
same device. Will it be fixed upon release of 8.10? I really hope this
can be fixed because I want to use the Ubuntu as my audio computer.

To help pinpoint whether this is an alsa-lib regression, please use the
following procedure:

When I issue
paplay /usr/share/sounds/*up.wav
I hear the startup sound clip, so that works. On the other hand I hear
no sound from aplay:

Does the same symptom occur when you issue `paplay
/usr/share/sounds/*up.wav' in a Terminal? If so, how about `aplay
/usr/share/sounds/*up.wav'?
