This actually is an issue in the nexuiz-data package, not nexuiz.
Furthermore, I just yesterday uploaded a version to Debian unstable
(2.4.2-2) which includes a patch to disable the version check. It is
pretty small (just some #if 0 and #endif in one file), so you might want
to use that patch for
