is there some reason for not using it?
Is this a reasonable argument do not use it when this configuration tool is
in menu? Why it is there when I am not allowed to use it.

Don't use Grandr. Select System/Preferences/Screen Resolution from the
menu and set up your screens. This time you shouldn't lose your
settings.
