re-installed bluezutils - the completely removed it - all OK now :)

Just to let you know - my problem was fixed also. I reinstalled because
of some other things that wouldn't uninstall fully. (They were part of
the Go Play package.) Now, I have no problems connected to bluez.

my current version for bluez is 4.120-ubuntu1, the package that won't
uninstall is at the same version, however when I reinstall it there are
no problems.

You weren't actually on the upgraded transitional package. If you
upgrade to the "new" transitional package, you "should" be able to
purge. Can you verify?
