This bug is fixed by installing w32codecs and dvdcss packages from
medibuntu. I can now play DVD's on my computer. Weird that a codec
issue freezes ubuntu, but that would be a separate bug. Making this as
invalid now.

thank you for your bug report. can you still ssh to the box after the
crash? whatever the user application is doing the system should still
respond so that's not an application bug. could you attach you syslog,
messaged and Xorg.0.log after the crash?

Importance:
Sorry for the message/attachment spam. I tried this on totem-xine and
VLC, all crashed, so like you said its not an application problem.
Something maybe with my CD/DVD Drive?

I have taken parts of the syslog and messages and the entire Xorg.0.log
and attached it. I can supply the entire syslog and messages if you'd

what videocard and driver do you use? do you use the desktop effects
option? is that specific to dvd playing or videos trigger the same bug
when you read those? the issue could be an xorg server or a linux one

I had desktop effects enabled to normal originally, and the problem
happened. I just tested it with desktop effects off and it still froze
my system.
I also just tested it with a .AVI video I have and it ran with no
problem
Also as of right now I have no means to SSH to my system
reassigning to linux
