I just update to Lucid - went like dream and everything working (had a small
glitch with cupsd, though).
The xorg-server issue reported in the bug seems solved, but the new splash
screen introduced in Lucid actually displays the exact same problem as the
XWindow did earlier !?

I've switched from Feisty to Jaunty and now my xorg.conf settings are
ignored, too.
I have a LCD monitor (DVI) and a Plasma TV (Compsite) but don't know how
I can get a video signal for my TV without xorg.conf.

I can confirm that modelines in xorg.conf are also ignored in Intrepid
64-bit. I supplied a modeline for my Toshiba 65HM167 but it was
ignored. Real bummer because my TV has a decent bit of overscan that
can't be adjusted on the TV's side, so I need to do it from within
Linux.

According to the release note, the new Xorg can run without using the
Xorg.conf. Maybe it is your case.

At the same time this will allow the great majority of users to run without an
