Well, I've got three installations which this affects - all three were
upgrades from 8.04 to 8.10 and kubuntu-desktop added. Here's what I did
to fix it (at least, it works for me):
* Edited /etc/xdg/autostart/knetworkmanager-autostart.desktop and added
the following line:
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
* Edit
fwiw, those .desktop files are shipped in /etc/xdg/autostart/ ... maybe
confirm manually.
