Hi everyone I found this problem in Hardy to.
I resolved it by installing the ppa package from this bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vpnc/+bug/206673
To install I did the command line
sudo dpkg -i vpnc_0.5.1r275-1ubuntu1~ppa1_i386.deb
Via the GUI the install option is
I can also confirm this. vpnc --dpd-idle does solve my problem, but
where can i enter this option in NM?

starting vpnc with, vpnc --dpd-idle, solves my problem.

Probably should have mentioned I'm starting vpn through network manager.
Could nm be the problem?

I've now confirmed that it's vpnc rather than nm - starting vpnc from
terminal with or without --dpd-idle 0 still times out after 30 seconds.
Hope someone can fix this before intrepid release. :-(

In my case, the timeout is more like 30 seconds - just enough time to
login.
