You ignore the problem for at least a year, do not ask for any
additional information, and then just close it? Exactly what is the
point of submitting bug reports?

The problem seems unchanged to me. I am running the Ibex with full
updates.

I am also experiencing the same problem. I am not running compiz and
have a fairly stock installation of Ubuntu 8.10, mine was not an upgrade
but an install from 8.10
