You can enable Lock screen on resume as well as When Laptop Lid Closed: Supend in Guidance Power Manager (by double clicking the systray icon). On my x40 it takes 2-3 seconds till suspends starts if done this way - and the WLAN doesn't reconnect properly afterwards
