They don't need to do Preserve UUID as much as they need TO INDICATE
THAT THEY HAVE SELECTED A PARTITION TO DO SOMETHING ON instead of
leaving swap partitions blank WHETHER OR NOT
Hernando, I found the following information at the paga at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-basicfilesystems . When
formatting over the top of an existing swap partition, preserve its UUID
to avoid leaving systems that use UUIDs in /etc/fstab without swap. So,
I suspect that even if
Oh dear! I just tried it two times and you are right - the UUIDs will be
preserved.
Seems I grabbed NOT an actual daily Live-CD the other day. :-/

I have used the Intrepid Beta CD to do 3 installations and although the
partitioner did mark the existing swap partition with use as swap, the
format this partition box was unchecked. As a matter of fact, in one
of the installations I was able to format the root partition using other
means, then
Hey! Forgot to mention that the existing swap partition doesn't get
checked but when the summary of what's going to happen is shown, you
will see the partition will get formatted.
After selecting manual partitioning:
