I have the same problem on the Thinkpad r500 with an external display in
extended mode connected via VGA. I did add the SubSection in
/etc/X11/xorg.conf but still get the same error. What else can be done
about this problem?

You have to set the virtual size to a large enough dimension in your
/etc/X11/xorg.conf for example with a 1280x1024 VGA on top of a
1280x800 LCD, you need to declare 1280x1824 virtual dimension. I wonder
why it doesn't do that automatically but by hand, you simply have to

I've got the same problem on my setup. Nvidia card with two monitors
connected, one 1920x1200, the other 1280x800. Inverted rotation works,
but left or right doesn't work. Attached my xorg.conf

One last thing: I've got an HP 2335 screen attached through the HDMI
port. I've tried it with the regular ol' VGA-style port, and get the
