This bug has been fixed in the upstream code. When the zenity project
puts out the next release, this fix will be included. Then, we'll get
that new version into Ubuntu.

Hummm, but is it a zenity bug or new zenity modus operandi ?
I have the same problem with if, for, while,... when dont use any echo.
Example :
while true ; do
# I dont have any echo
var=test ;
# bla, bla, bla...
done|zenity --progress --pulsate --auto-close --title=pulsate testing
For progress pulsate, mine is still working in intrepid, but not for
progress bar.
May be you could try to add redirection in your script, so, from:
wget -cv
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz;
|zenity --progress --pulsate --auto-close
