No fix is needed from Ubuntu. Upstream (Microsoft) already fixed the
issue in Hotmail a while ago and it works with the default Ubuntu
useragent. No need to workaround or use old insecure firefox versions
anymore.

this is not something we are going to fix. please report this as a
hotmail bug. post the complete user agent you see in help - about to
hotmail and tell them to properly parse standard compliant user agent
strings.

For me the workaround no longer seems necessary (3 machines with up-to-
date Ubuntu 8.10 Firefox 3.0.4)? I can now use hotmail again with the
default Ubuntu settings. Perhaps MS did react to our complaints...

It's commonly a useragent issue.
When the useragent information is modified Hotmail works again.

to several forums

And search for USERAGENT appears:

Should read:
general.useragent.vendor predetermined Chain
To Alexander Sack after opera an updated hotmail is work but firefox ...
complain with hotmail not with us. What does it mean? Why Opera
work?
