Lilo gets installed on dist-upgrades, due to the kernel image recommending
it. Is this intentional?

grub but if grub is installed why does update manager install lilo?

I don't understand Juan's comment, or why this was marked fix
released. No, this bug is not present in 8.10. It's present in 9.04 as
the description indicates. Since 9.04 8.10, this is still a bug and
still needs fixing.

I also got lilo installed even though I've been using grub all the time
in intrepid etc.

same here on my amd64 sys , in mycase it requested I run the post install
script before reboot but otherwise completed the install .
I purged it before reboot .
